FAQ

DeskBridge questions

Plain answers to the questions clients ask when they want to understand the business value, not only the technology.

What is DeskBridge in simple terms?

DeskBridge is a managed business workspace and control service. It brings workspace access, users, devices, support, data movement, audit evidence and security controls into one accountable operating model.

What is the simple reason a company needs DeskBridge?

DeskBridge reduces the cost and risk of running business IT by giving the organisation one managed workspace, one access model, one support route, one security boundary and one evidence record. It is not just another document system, cloud drive, remote desktop or security tool.

What makes DeskBridge different?

Most organisations already have tools. What usually breaks down is ownership, supportability and proof. DeskBridge brings users, devices, access, support, data movement, audit evidence and security controls into one accountable managed service.

Is DeskBridge only about governance and security?

No. Governance and security are important, but DeskBridge is also about practical day-to-day operation: giving users a managed place to work, reducing informal IT support, controlling onboarding and offboarding, managing support requests, keeping records and lowering the overhead of scattered tools.

What are the benefits for smaller companies?

For smaller companies, DeskBridge can reduce total cost of ownership by replacing fragmented hosting, email administration, remote access, backups, user setup, support and security overhead with one managed operating model. The benefit is simpler IT, fewer unmanaged risks and a more professional service boundary without hiring a full internal IT department.

What are the benefits for larger companies?

For larger companies, the cost saving can be greater, but the bigger value is control. DeskBridge helps answer difficult questions around compliance, audit, contractor access, data handling, AI use, support evidence, offboarding and who is accountable when something changes or goes wrong.

Why is DeskBridge relevant to government or regulated institutions?

Government, public-sector and regulated organisations need more than a working login. They need controlled access, clear data boundaries, key-custody choices, audit evidence, incident reporting, support records and proof that policies are actually being followed. DeskBridge is designed around that operating requirement.

If a company already logs document access, why does it need DeskBridge?

Document access logs are useful, but they are only one part of the picture. They usually show who opened a file inside one system. DeskBridge controls and evidences the wider working boundary around the document: who connected, from where, through which workspace, under which policy, with what approvals, what data movement was allowed, what support actions happened and what audit evidence is available afterwards.

Is DeskBridge similar to Aconex?

There can be some overlap around controlled project access and document evidence, especially in construction or project environments. The difference is that Aconex-style systems are mainly project/document collaboration platforms. DeskBridge is a broader managed workspace and control layer: access, workspaces, helpdesk, device/session controls, data movement, onboarding, offboarding, key custody and client-safe audit evidence. DeskBridge can complement tools like Aconex rather than replace every specialist project-management feature.

Can DeskBridge control timesheets or an organisation’s financial budget?

Yes, where DeskBridge Sovereign is included in the service scope. DeskBridge Workspaces provide the controlled access, identity, support and evidence boundary; DeskBridge Sovereign is the business operating system being developed for finance, projects, workforce, sales, purchasing, stock, production, reporting and related workflows. Clients can adopt the relevant Sovereign modules or keep an existing finance or project system under DeskBridge governance. Production and statutory claims remain limited to functions that have completed the applicable validation and acceptance gates.

Does DeskBridge replace Microsoft 365, Bluehost or existing hosting?

Not as a simple like-for-like replacement. Microsoft 365 provides productivity and email features. Hosting providers provide web or server hosting. DeskBridge is a managed business workspace and control service. It can include managed mail, hosting or governance where scoped, but the real value is one accountable operating model around access, support, data movement, security and evidence.

Can DeskBridge work with existing systems instead of replacing them?

Yes. DeskBridge can wrap, govern or provide controlled access to existing systems where that is the right design. The aim is not to force every client to abandon tools that already work. The aim is to bring access, support, data handling and evidence under a clearer managed boundary.

Is DeskBridge also a helpdesk?

Yes. DeskBridge includes helpdesk capability, but it is more than a helpdesk. A normal helpdesk records problems and support requests. DeskBridge connects those requests to the controlled working environment: users, workspaces, access, devices, policies, approvals, changes and audit evidence.

How is DeskBridge different from a normal helpdesk?

A traditional helpdesk can usually show who raised an issue, what the problem was, who handled it and whether it was closed. DeskBridge can also show who had access, which workspace or endpoint was involved, whether the user was authorised, whether MFA or stronger authentication was required, whether approval was needed, whether the action affected data or permissions, and what evidence is available afterwards.

If a company already has a helpdesk, why would DeskBridge matter?

DeskBridge is not only competing with an existing helpdesk. It can sit above it, integrate with it, or replace parts of it by giving the organisation a managed workspace, security boundary, support route and audit evidence in one service. For small companies, that can replace informal IT support. For larger and regulated organisations, it turns support into recorded, authorised and reviewable action inside a controlled environment.

What is DeskBridge Authenticator?

DeskBridge 1 Authenticator is the account-protection app used where a client service design needs stronger sign-in, approval or recovery workflows. The product direction is broader than replacing Microsoft or Google authenticator apps: it should become the user’s DeskBridge companion for password change, recovery, device review, support, Helpdesk updates and DeskBridge Chat where enabled across mobile, desktop client and workspace. Its value is that account security, support and evidence stay inside the DeskBridge operating model.

Why is the DeskBridge Helpdesk a strong selling point?

Because support is where many real security and governance decisions happen. Password recovery, authenticator recovery, access changes, endpoint moves, contractor changes, blocked sandbox actions, Guardian incidents, report requests and application approvals all need records. DeskBridge Helpdesk turns those moments into controlled, reviewable service evidence instead of informal messages or untracked fixes.

What are the key custody options?

DeskBridge can be designed around DeskBridge Managed Keys, Customer-Controlled Keys, or Customer-Held / Zero-Knowledge style keys. Managed keys maximise normal support and recovery. Customer-controlled keys require client approval for protected data access. Customer-held models create the strongest custody boundary but can limit recovery, search, scanning and support.

How are customer-held keys issued without DeskBridge knowing them?

For a true customer-held or zero-knowledge model, keys should be generated by the client or by client-side tooling under the client’s control, not by DeskBridge staff. DeskBridge can provide the process, tooling and evidence model, but the client holds the raw key material. DeskBridge records metadata, approvals, hashes or custody evidence rather than the usable key itself.

How is data encrypted if DeskBridge does not know the key?

In a customer-held model, protected data is encrypted before or at the boundary where the customer-controlled key is available. DeskBridge can store and manage encrypted data, infrastructure, access routes, backups and evidence, but cannot decrypt protected content without the client releasing or using the key. Some server-side features may be unavailable or reduced.

Can DeskBridge manage the workspace while not knowing protected data?

Yes, if the service is designed that way. DeskBridge can manage the workspace infrastructure, identity, access, support, monitoring and evidence while protected data remains encrypted under customer-held or customer-controlled keys. DeskBridge may still see operational metadata needed to run the service, but protected content cannot be decrypted without the agreed client key process.

What specific controls can DeskBridge bring together?

  • Managed workspace access
  • Named users, roles, MFA and FIDO2/passkey direction where supported
  • Contractor and supplier access with expiry and offboarding evidence
  • Clipboard, file-transfer, print and data-movement controls by policy
  • Helpdesk-backed support records and change evidence
  • Client dashboard visibility, scheduled reports and audit evidence packs
  • Guardian monitoring, sandboxing and malware/ransomware resistance controls as service scope matures
  • DeskBridge managed, customer-controlled or customer-held key-custody models where required

What should DeskBridge not claim?

DeskBridge should not claim unsupported sovereignty, compliance, government approval, zero access, partnership or product replacement unless the signed service design and evidence support that claim. The correct position is controlled operation with clear caveats, not inflated promises.

How should DeskBridge be explained?

DeskBridge gives an organisation a controlled working environment with one accountable provider. For small organisations, that means lower cost and simpler IT. For large organisations, it means stronger governance, security and compliance evidence. For government and regulated institutions, it means controlled access, data-boundary discipline and proof.
